What's a Natural Swimming Pool?

September 13, 2018

We are all used to chlorine treated pools and most of us have probably never given the chemicals used a second thought. But, it’s been proven that prolonged exposure has been linked to skin problems, premature aging and even cancer.

Now, homeowners and communities are toying around with the idea of natural swimming pools. These man-made watering holes mimic biological cycles found in nature to filter water and keep it safe for swimmers.

Interested in knowing more? Here’s our break down on how a natural swimming pool works.

The structure

A natural swimming pool consists of two different areas:

  • The swimming area
  • The regeneration area

Together, a powerful biological system is formed to clear the water of harmful microorganisms.

The swimming area is essentially where the clean water flows to and obviously, it is where people will dive in. It will be separated from the regeneration area (on a higher or lower plane) with water constantly moving between the two zones. This is also important, because it keeps mosquito larva from being able to form, since they prefer standing water.

The regeneration area is where the cleaning process takes place. It’s filled with plants that feed hydroponically on the water. Aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are found as well, which also aids in dissolving harmful elements.

The benefits

Say goodbye to those nasty chemicals! No more burning eyes, dried out skin or green pool hair! You get to cool off during the hot summer months in pure, fresh water.

Not only that, but these pools consume less energy than chlorine swimming pools, so you save some money in the long run.

Plus, they are beautiful! Plan your natural pool design and turn your backyard into a magical water world and lush, aqua garden.
